QING YUE (PRof. giuseppe ghisellini)



Qing Yue's personal, cultural and artistic experience is so rich that it is difficult to summarize it in just one page without risking to omit something. 

Her Chinese name means "Clear Moon" and her Italian name is Cinzia Giancovich. She was born in Macau, a Portuguese colony, of an Italian father who lived with enthusiasm and of a Chinese mother of reknown nobility and culture. She spent important periods of her life in Macau, Hong Kong, India and Italy. 

She maintains contacts with several parts of the world through her relatives who live in the USA, UK, China and Italy and also through her daily professional working relations with scientists of the five continents who visit the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics, ICTP, (UNESCO) where she has been working as an official since 1991.
Since 1996 Qing Yue has been tirelessly coordinating the Centre's Cultural Committee and the "Centre's Art Gallery" in the artistic, educative and cultural fields. She organizes cultural events, especially art and photograph exhibitions by many different artists. 

Since 1999 she has been actively collaborating with the "United Nations of the Arts Academy", UNA, in Trieste, organizing exhibitions, symposia, train station installations and meetings with Italian and International artists. 

An artist herself, Qing Yue has been participating in symposia and in Italian and International exhibitions. Mention must be made to those which have taken place in Salzburg, Vienna, Sarajevo, Hong Kong, Trieste, Atripalda, Udine, as well as in Slovenia, Croatia, Virginia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Sweden. She also took part in symposia in Italy, Germany, Croatia, Slovenia and has been interviewed by Italian and Chinese TV stations. 

In 2003 she will be taking part, amongst others, in an artistic event with the Italian Acrobatic Airforce Team "Frecce Tricolori", in an International art exhibit in Toledo-Spain, in the UNA Academy's Symposium in Corfu-Greece, at an International Workshop in Rome. She will also organize several exhibitions at the Centre where she works. 

I'd like to highlight a particularly significant aspect of Qing Yue's artistic personality and character: the international train installations, organized by UNA, where she prepared huge works with bright colours which can be appreciated not only by art lovers but can also be admired by the thousands of travellers who travel to so many parts of our planet and transfer the artists's message with them everywhere. In the year 2000 Qing Yue carried out floor installations (2 x 2 metres) in the train stations of Venice Santa Lucia and Trieste: large carps swimming gracefully, in harmony; then, the same year, she did another installation in the Salzburg train station where she filled the glass doors of the lift with colourful crickets full of life. In 2001 she carried out a wall installation (2 x 2 metres) in the Vienna train station: a golden cape with black fish. 

It is not easy to interpret in only one manner the deep symbologies of the animals she represents, which belong to the ancient Chinese culture, and her special way of binding both the arcaic and the contemporary aspects of her art. 

However, it is very easy to understand in Qing Yue's artistic expression - so rich of bright colours and continuous movement - the sense of her joy for life which is based on her constant search to create, construct. This vital message becomes universal - and it becomes Art with a capital A - not only because it is carried across the world by so many travellers, but also because it touches our deepest inner feelings.
